Hiring a car with AM Hire in Newcastle is straightforward and stress-free. By booking online, you can select your chosen vehicle type, along with your pick-up and drop-off dates and times.
Once you’ve confirmed your booking, you’ll receive a confirmation email with a list of required documents, of which you need to bring on the date of your hire, such as your driving licence and proof of address.
On your scheduled date, simply visit our office, located on Brunton Road in Kenton Bank Foot, only three miles, or two metro stops, from Newcastle Airport. Our team will verify your documents, process the security deposit and then hand over the keys.
Dropping Off Your Car
Returning your car is just as seamless with AM Hire. Once your hire period is over, simply return the car to our branch at the agreed drop-off time, and we will swiftly process your deposit.
Before arrival, please ensure that the vehicle’s fuel tank is filled, as per your rental agreement. Our team will perform a walk-around inspection and mileage check to confirm that the car has returned in the expected condition. Once approved, your deposit will be processed immediately.

Is there a deposit to pay for car hire?
Yes, on collection, you will need to provide a card to pay a preauthorised deposit of £200, which can be held. This will automatically be released upon the satisfactory return of your vehicle. If any additional costs are incurred, such as costs from damage that is outside the accidental damage excess, then this will be deducted from the deposit first before you are then charged.
What is Accidental Damage Insurance Excess?
£1000 of accidental damage insurance excess is applied to all of our vehicles. This is the maximum liability for which you will be liable in the event of accidental damage to a vehicle, but excludes damage caused by negligence, such as misfuelling, loss of keys, collision with overhead objects, etc, for which you will be charged in full. We can advise you more on this after you make your booking, and we will discuss this with you when you pick up your car.
What requirements do you have to be able to hire a car?
The driver needs to be 25 to 74 years old, and you must have held your full driving license for 2 years before you can hire a car from us. If you have more than 6 penalty points for speeding, then you will need to speak to our team in advance of making a booking. Drink and drug driving offences are difficult for us to insure.
Will I get a specific make and model of car when I hire?
We are not able to guarantee the exact make and model of the car that you will pick up when you choose to hire with us. We offer different groups of cars so that you will have a car that is within that group and specification. In some cases, depending on availability, we will also upgrade you on the day. If you require further information on the best car to hire that suits you, speak to our team before you hire, and we are happy to help.
Can the duration of the hire be extended?
Depending on availability, we can extend the duration of your hire as long as you let us know beforehand that you need an extension. Contact the team before the end of the hire period, and we will do our best to extend your car hire.
Can I hire multiple cars?
If you have currently hired a car or need to hire multiple vehicles, we can also handle this for you. You can book multiple vehicles through our booking form or speak to our team to discuss your requirements.
What documentation do you need when I hire a car?
We will need your original UK Driving License. If you have a paper license, please ensure that you have your valid passport to verify your identity. We will also need your UK Driving Licence Summary Printout / or Check Code if you didn’t send it when you booked online. Secondary proof of address is required for all new customers and customers who haven’t hired in the last 12 months. A passport or credit/debit card in your name must be signed with a signature matching your driver’s license. This doesn’t need to be the payment card, but the cardholder must be present to make the payment and deposit.
Is insurance included?
Unless we say otherwise or you have a non-UK license, there is a £1000.00 accidental damage insurance excess on all our vehicles. You don’t need to arrange for any other insurance when hiring the vehicle. A collision damage waiver is available, which covers more aspects, and this will reduce the excess to £650.
